DIY Project: Pin Board

So, if you have read my post on my Longest Yard Sale finds, you will know I am a freak for vintage costume jewelry, especially broaches. I don’t really have a great way to display them though. So, this weekend, I remedied the problem.

I created this board to display all of my pins on…Turned out cute, huh?

To start, I took a piece of foam core and drew my pattern on it. The one I drew had lots of curves and sharp points. If I was to do this again, I would make on with less no curl-i-ques, no sharp points, and more spacing between sections (just a hard learned tip from me to you). Once I had it like I wanted it, I cut it out with a box cutter.

Next I wrapped batting around the shape and stapled (with a staple gun) to the back. Then I took fabric and did the same (This is where the curl-i-ques and sharp points gave me trouble). Once I had all of the fabric in place, to add interest and give me a place to hang things like scarf clips, I wrapped the curl-i-ques with ribbon.

Anyway, I thought it turned out great, and now I can actually see the pins I have so I can wear them all of the time!

I think this technique could also be used to make a shapely fabric-covered corkboard (just replace the foam core with cork).
