Special Guest: Lauren from creativecurio.com (Part 2)

I hope all you Lemonheads are having a super-fab week. Today is the second round of my interview with Lauren of creativecurio.com. This is based off of a little post that photographer Jasmine Star posted on her blog, and I just had to ask these questions of Lauren!

I AM…a Christian, a wife, a daughter, a designer, a scrapbooker, a SCUBA
diver, a letterpress printer (wannabe!), a blogger, a teacher, a learner. I
am also responsible, creative, perfectionistic, practical, a little
judgmental and some have said I’m charming, too. I like that idea, but I’m
not sure if it’s true.
I WANT…to learn something new each day
I HAVE…too little free time!
I KEEP…ticket stubs from movies, plays and amusement parks and birthday
cards
I WISH I COULD…have my own letterpress equipment
I HATE…forgetting what’s important to me and letting others dictate that
for me
I FEAR…being overwhelmed with obligations. They are usually self-imposed
more often than other-imposed
I HEAR…things people don’t say. Sometimes this is good (because it’s
accurate) and sometimes it’s bad (because I assume)
I DON’T THINK…I play and doodle enough
I REGRET…not getting into blogging in college and waiting so long to join
Twitter. Both have been a wonderful experience!
I LOVE…Jesus, my husband, my mom, being creative and noticing details that
others often miss
I AM NOT…a very good illustrator
I DANCE…rather ungracefully, but it’s still fun! I dance in my head a lot
when I’m listening to swing, fox trot and bellydancing music.
I SING…very badly
I NEVER…compromise my moral values
I RARELY…let people down
I CRY WHEN I WATCH…Moulin Rouge
I AM NOT ALWAYS…as organized, disciplined and focused as I would like to
be
I HATE THAT…my boss measures company loyalty by the amount of time spent
at the office. I have this up in my cube http://dilbert.com/2008-8-31/
I’M CONFUSED ABOUT…why people have to keep doing things the “old way” when
they hate it
I NEED…space to think and figure things out
I SHOULD…not complete this sentence. I don’t like “shoulds;” they
represent obligations that other people want me to do, but not necessarily
ones I think are important.

Lauren’s Last Comments:

I like personality tests! Some I have taken are the Enneagram Type
Indicator (which, imho, is the best!) and I’m a Type 1, The Reformer (
http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/TypeOne.asp). I also like the Strengths
Finder, which isn’t really a personality test, but it was so helpful and
encouraging to me to find out that what I like it to do is something I’m
good at and it is valuable! I have the strengths of Ideation (creativity),
Input (collecting information, observing), Learner, Restorative (problem
solving) and Responsibility.

Being the collector that I am, I like quotes. This is probably my favorite:
“It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of
instruction have not entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry.”
It’s attributed to Einstein (but there are so many mis-attributed quotes
out there). I like it because I think too much emphasis is place on formal
education and far too little on being curious and asking questions!

Once again, I thank Lauren so much for sharing part of herself with us. Please make sure to visit Lauren at creativecurio.com!
Toodles!

  • Sooooo cute! Love it! :)

  • Woot! Thanks for the idea J*!

  • I sing too! Though also very badly.

Scuba diving is something I’d love to do. Have you dove (that is right, isn’t it? Dove? It sounds odd) anywhere exotic?

  • Yes, Jasmine, thanks! I enjoyed filling this out and sharing with the Lemonheads and my readers, too. And thank you Kelly for taking up the call for blog inspiration on Twitter :D

David, yes, “have dove” is correct (present perfect), but it would be just “dived” if it was past tense. Heh, taking a foreign language (Spanish) really helps one learn English grammar better. I’ve dove in Hawai’i, and I’ll be diving there again next week! Yay! Also been diving in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico this past March. Diving in California now just doesn’t cut it. Not a whole lot to see here except Garibaldi and kelp forests (and I HATE the feeling of kelp grabbing my hair!)

  • Funny you should mention Spanish, Lauren. When I was teaching English in Spain, I learnt so much about my own language! The education levels are so low for English in the UK (from my experience).

Hawaii next week?! I’ve just gone the colour of the comment box.

  • That Dilbert comic you have on your wall is fabulous! :)
I’m glad you’re enjoying your Twitter experience as much as blogging.

Those are great ways to ask personal questions, Kelly.
I’d like to ask you another one, Lauren: Do you have a dream that one day you hope will be a reality, and the one that you’re actually working towards achieving one day?

  • I have to give all of the credit to J*’s blog! Thanks so much.

  • David,
I think grammar understanding is low in the U.S. too and I know many teachers who complain that kids spell things in formal essays like they do when they chat/text. Pretty sad!

    Vivien,
That is a really good question. I think I’m having a quarter life crisis at 25; I’m not exactly sure what I want to do or where I want to go!

I love graphic design and I’m really enjoying letterpress and designing projects for it. It would be really cool to have a letterpress studio someday, but I’m a little afraid that it will lose the fun and just become work :( I love to create and be creative. I know that’s something I will always want to do.

  • I love that dilbert comic, hello new work wallpaper, now I just sit and wait for the boss to come by and ask, What’s that?
