A Lesson Lived is a Lesson Learned

As we go into the weekend, I would like to share a lesson I learned a few weeks ago. I try not to get too personal here on this blog, but I think that this is a lesson that could apply to anyone, so I want to share.

I was visiting a friend a few weeks ago while he was working. There were lots of people going and coming around us as we talked at his workplace. One particular man was going in and out of the room we were in, so I took vague notice of him. On one particular entrance, he was talking to some others in the room, and all of the sudden he violently fell to the ground. My friend and I quickly noticed that something was wrong with him. As I dialed 911, my friend monitored the man. He was only breathing in gasps. Everything around me was running in slow motion; police and paramedics filled the room around us. All we could do is sit and helplessly watch as this man died before our eyes. His heart had just stopped working. It just struck me as being so sad that he was surrounded by strangers as he took his dying breaths.

So my lesson learned from this experience is death is real, and it can separate us from the ones we love in a few seconds. I know I have been guilty of putting my blog, my Etsy business and other things in front of spending time with my loved ones countless times. I have made a vow to myself to spend more time with those that I love so much. So please sit on the couch with your spouse for an extra few minutes, give your child an extra hug, or call your parents and tell them you love them. Your time on this earth is limited; use it wisely.

Thanks for reading. I don’t say that enough, but I cherish each comment made, each email that you send, and each time you tell me you enjoyed something. Please don’t ever stop giving me feedback. I appreciate each and every one of you.

  • Oh how awful, that must have been so scary. I agree, life is so short and we must cherish every minute. I’ll hug my husband and kitties extra hard tonight.
