I’ve been thinkin’ about – Getting Real (Psst…there is a giveaway at the end!)
Hey lemonheads! I hope you are all doing well. Today’s post is a little bit different.
OK, there is no reason for the peacock in this post, except that I like peacocks…And this gives you lovely color palette to look at.
I have been thinking a lot about blogging and about my identity on this blog. I have made a commitment to change a bit. I want to become more real on this blog. I want you guys to get to know me better. I want to share more of myself. Now, it might not be all sunshine and roses, but I want the real “Kelly” to come shining through. I only think you have seen glimpses of her so far.
In the true nature of the Facebook’s “25 Random Things” posts that have been going around, here are my 25 random things:
1. I grew up almost all my life in a town of 800 people.
2. I ran track in high school.
3. I am a tech and sci-fi geek.
4. I was a horticulture and a technology major in college.
5. I love everything about gardening.
6. I love bird watching.
7. I am a live music fanatic.
8. I am secretly a very hilarious person and really missed my calling as a comedian (according to me).
9. I love to go to yard sales and flea markets and look at EVERYTHING.
10. I used to be a pageant girl – I was 4th runner up in an international pageant – (Ha! That’s crazy, right?)
11. I can’t sing even one note on key, or as my grandma used to put it, “I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket!”
12. Even though #11 is very true, I was in a singing group in high school! We would travel to churches during the school year to raise money for our mission trips during the summer.
13. I did mission work in the Northwest for two summers in high school.
14. I am deathly afraid of spiders, even baby ones.
15. A mouse slept in the bed with me one night last year (of course without me knowing about it).
16. I have gotten so dependent on glasses that I can’t see to drive without them.
17. I went to Bonnaroo Music Festival one year and my friend and I camped out and “roughed it” for 4 days – without a shower!
18. I love to go camping and canoeing.
19. I own and can shoot a 38 special revolver.
20. I love to cook and bake.
21. I HATE to vacuum.
22. My best friend’s little girl crowned me “Apple K K” – Apple is across between aunt and uncle and KK is for Kelly – she’s a cutie!
23. My first car cost $350. It was a brown Dodge Colt hatchback. I think maybe a ’70 something model? Very pimp for a sophomore in high school.
24. I used to put on special events and concerts for a living.
25. I have a dimple in my elbow.
So, was that more than you really wanted to know? Probably so…
Now, in the spirit of getting to know each other better, please (and when I say please, I mean PLEASE) share one fact about yourself in the comments section below. I really want to get to know who is out there on the interweb reading this bloggy thing.
So, are you up for it? In the spirit of fun, I want to give away a pack of my note cards to two lucky commenters…You get to pick from one of my five designs (which you can view in the “Note Cards section of my Etsy shop), so comment away! I will be using a random number generator to pick the winner. You have until midnight CST on Sunday, March 1st to enter, and you can enter once a day until the deadline. I will announce the winner on Monday, March 2nd, so check back then!
Make sure you give me a fact about you each time you enter…I can’t wait to get to know you better!

*While a college student, I got lost in Romania and asked for directions in French.
I’m the youngest of 3 sisters by 12 years!

Hope: That is a big gap!
Karise: Thanks so much for the compliment!
June: Blogging is a good way to start getting out of that shyness…I am shy around people I don’t know. Blogging has helped (I think).
Hi, just stumbled upon your lovely blog! I just bought a smartphone, just to be able to read blogs on my commute to work every day. I travel by train, not car! :-)
Glad to know you travel by train…I was getting worried!

Just found your blog via the Nesting Place. I LOVE your stuff. The note cards are fabulous.
Something about me – I just took up photography and sewing this year. Never thought I would have these as hobbies, but I am really enjoying them both!
Thanks so much Laura…I am blushing! Yea for you! I have always wanted to sew, but I am afraid I won’t have the patience (I probably need to learn though since I work for a fabric/notions company!).
Your stuff is so cute. I’ve been using the desktop calendars, the cheery colors and season designs always make me smile. Thanks for sharing!
Fact about me: I just started a blog after stalking, um reading, so many others. It just looks fun.

LuLu: Thanks so much for the compliment…I am pretty crazy for monogramming too (if you can’t tell!) I am so terrible at math too. I have to have a calculator just to add. So sad!
Valerie: 5 kids! That is a lot! I am sure that having sisters is so cool. I only have one lil’ bro, but I wouldn’t trade him. He is a pretty cool guy.
Thanks again you guys for all of your comments! I hope to get to visit all of your blogs very soon.
I want one of everything in your store. :)
I am also a Kelly. I am not, however, terribly crafty. Well, I may be crafty in the wiley sense, but am not able to actually make anything artistic.
I’d like to win your wonderfully creative things, though!
Hi there, I wandered over from the Nester today. My name is Kelly too! Good to meet you. I think the craziest thing in your list is sleeping with the mouse. eeek!! We have had some down in our garage this winter and I am sooo afraid they will get into the house. So, how did you realize you had slept with said mouse?
Let’s see, I love to entertain, finally married the most wonderful man after waiting for God’s best for me for 32 years. He and I met online. hmmm. . . what else do you want to know? Kelly
what a fun idea! i love your 25 things. hmm…something about me. i got engaged at the top of the empire state building.
Just found you via Nester. Love what you have going on over here! Great list of 25 things! I just did this in Facebook and it was so hard – ha! One of my favorites was…
9. A NY taxi driver once pulled away with my luggage – including my laptop! I never saw any of it again…
Kodi: Thanks for the compliment!
Kelly #1: Any kind of crafty is good…Nice to see so many Kellys!
Kelly #2: Good to meet you too! I have gotten some inquiries about the mouse, so here is the story. I was sleeping one night and moved around a bit. I noticed a little flutter on my right arm. That startled me so I ran my hand across the sheet and out runs a mouse! I think I startled him as much as he startled me!
Lyndsey: Wow! That is a good one…Thanks for sharing!
Southern Fried Gal: Thanks for visiting, SFG. That is awful! I am so sorry it happened to you.
we can enter once per day, right? i want to win :)
more about me: i don’t have depth perception [this makes catching and hand-eye coordination tough, but yes i can still legally drive a car :) ha.]
You can totally enter, just as long as you share a fact! Wow…That would be a hard one…I have a bit of that problem when driving at night. I guess no one will want to meet either of us on the road!
I am a total sci-fi geek too! Love that!
I have a completely serious addiction to ice cream
I need to do my 25 things! I’ve been tagged twice (does this count as thrice now?). Maybe that’ll be the blog post for this week.
My random thing? I like eating frozen corn (like when it’s still frozen).
Here’s a bonus: Marie has been the girl’s middle name in my family for at least 5 generations. Both of my female cousins have the middle name Marie too (and they are sisters).
Rachel: Yea! What is your fav sci-fi TV show? Mine is Heroes (totally makes my husband crazy)!
Shana: I share your addiction, girl.
Lauren: Frozen corn? That is still frozen? Crunchy…Thanks for the bonus. That is cool that you have a name that has made it through the fam.
Reading your 25 things – If you are really #14, you will love this. I woke up to a brown recluse on my FACE! Did not know that’s what it was because I was half asleep and just grabbed it and tossed it. But then, I began to wonder if it was something I would step on the next a.m. on the way to the coffee pot, so I got up and turned the lights on and there it was – Holy Cow! I don’t think that’s what I actually said :o
The still frozen corn seems sweeter to me. I think I started it just to be silly when I was little, but now I really like it!
YAY HEROES!! Are you following @JamesProps? He’s the props master for the show :)
Yolanda: I am totally cringing as I read this Yolanda! Creepy! I would have died from fright!
Lauren: Off to follow @JamesProps!
Something random about me: My husband and I bought the house across the street from my parents.
I found your blog/shop through the Nesting Place. Love it!
Just found your blog! Cute! Thanks for hosting a give away!
Facts about me… I’ve been blogging at HobbyMommy since July 2007. I’m a mom of 2 little peeps; a 6 year old boy and a 5 year old girl!
Let’s see…I’ve lived in 22 houses in 7 states…none of them military related.
I’m a big fan of military scifi—John Ringo totally rocks, but I might be reading him too much.
I’m jealous of your .38–I’m hoping to get one this summer.
Hubby is one of four and I am one of three…of the 6 siblings that had children, we are the only ones with a mixed family…2 girls and 3 boys. Everyone else either boys or girls, including the one expecting twins in May.
Read about your blog from the etsyteam emails. First time I’ve been to your blog – enjoyed reading, and wow – the fact that you were able to come up with 25 things about you – made me wonder if I could do it to!
So here’s something about me, that you don’t know – I’ve been married 3 times!
Lisa: Wow! That is close….Not sure I could do it. Thanks for letting me know how you found me!
Hobby Mommy: I hope that I can continue blogging that long; good job! Also, I am sure your lil’ peeps are a joy…Thanks for commenting!
Susan: 22 houses in 7 states? That is crazy! I will have to check out John Ringo. I don’t have as much time to read as I used to, but might have to squeeze one in. Thanks for all the info!
Sandi: So glad to see another Etsy TwitterTeam member here! Welcome and I am glad that you found me. I am sure that you could do it (especially if you thought about your 25 things for a little while). Thanks for sharing!

Random thing about me: I have a paper fetish and am in a torrid love affair with a pair of scissors right now.
I haven’t seen your shop before and like it very much.
My favorite is the happy daisy notecards
Random fact: I look younger than I am, thank goodness. And sometimes I color with crayons.
Random fact on spiders–seems to be a theme!
I was bitten by a spider in Prague while on vacation. Didn’t know I was till the plane trip home the next day when it started to itch terribly. Ended up having minor surgery to remove the venom. Still don’t know what bit me.
Thanks for the jamesprops tip! Love Heroes and am off to follow him too!
I love the Rosie Posie Cards in your Notecard Section of your Etsy shop….Makes me think of spring!!
Random fact about me: I have a blind cat named Stevie. She has been blind from birth. She gets around quite well, but is a little shy.
Fun Giveaway, thanks and have a great day!!

My first car was a Chevy Chevette. My step-mother never could get it right and was always calling it a Corvette!
*thinking those thank you cards would come in handy at the office*
Cool idea!! Let’s see, I am 30 years old and I do not know how to ride a bike and have no desire to learn.
:-D
