Terrific Tuesdays: Portable Herb Garden

Hallo Lemonheads! Today’s Terrific Tuesdays project is an herb garden…And a portable one at that. I live in a rental house, and hope to be moving soon. My dream of building a permanent herb garden will have to wait until next spring, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have one at all. I just have to make sure I can move it if I need to. So, here we go…
My supply list:
- Herbs you love (3 or so)
- Large Terra Cotta pot
- Potting Mix
- Garden Markers

This is a simple little project, but it looks great and is very helpful if you cook with herbs.
My mom and I took a little trip to a local nursery and found lots of cool plants. The herbs I found were sage, variegated lemon thyme (to go with my regular lemon thyme), basil and rosemary.
First fill your pot about 2/3 full with potting mix.

Next take one herb plant at a time and massage the roots a bit to loosen them. Then create a hole in your potting mix and drop it in.

Continue to do this with the rest of your herbs until you have them all placed.

Now backfill your pot to cover the roots of your plants. Don’t fill your pot to the very top with soil. Make sure you leave about 1″ for watering purposes.

Mark your plants with the fun garden markers that we made last week.
Notes: Some people fertilize their herbs, but I don’t because I think that unfertilized herbs have more oils for a stronger flavor.
Your herbs will grow and fill in the pot, so sit back and wait for a beautiful pot of herbs to grace your porch!

Kelly,
Very nice, simple and informative blog post. I love the fact you demonstrated how easy it is to have your own herb garden at home.
I also really like the garden markers. Such as great idea and the perfect use for that cracked flower pot I have sitting on the patio. :-)
Thanks Amber! I really appreciate the visit and the comment :)
