Lemony Fresh Etsy Seller: In My Head Studios
Happy Wednesday lemonheads. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Today I would like to share one of my Etsy Twitter Team members (she is one of the leaders of the group) with you. I also have a special treat. Vickie of In My Head Studios, our seller of the day, was gracious enough to do an interview with me. Yay! So, let’s see what she has to say, shall we?
Kelly: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in art?
Vickie: My name is Victoria Porter and I live in Rochester, NY. I work out of my home studio full time. My art career started at a very young age – as soon as I could hold a crayon. My parents greatly encouraged creativity and there were never enough markers or paper and glue to keep me satisfied. I have to make art like I have to breathe. Being an artist is my favorite thing about myself. I love making art so much I hardly leave my studio!
Kelly: What made you want to turn your art into a business?
Vickie: The art became a business when I finally started to listen to my family and friends when they told me, “You could be selling this stuff! It’s good!” So I took a leap of faith and opened an Etsy shop about 1 1/2 years ago. Now I’m hooked on making art and having people like it enough to buy it! And I love being part of the small handmade business community.
Kelly: What are your favorite things about making your lovely pieces?
Vickie: My favorite thing about making art is the “high” I get when I finish something and it’s really good. I just want to sit there and look at it and study it – learn from my own process and remember how I did it. My next favorite thing is seeing the joy on people’s faces when they look at my work and really connect with it. That’s really cool. I miss that part of the process when it comes to online sales.
Kelly: Do you have any business advice/keys to success for new businesses?
Vickie: Read, read, read all you can about business. Learn as much as you can about it and don’t repeat other people’s mistakes. The Etsy forums are a great way to learn about online business. I pretty much learned all I know from there! Set goals so you have something to work towards. Don’t be afraid to ask questions either!
Kelly: What are your top 3 favorite blogs (besides the Etsy Twitter Team blog of course)?
Vickie: Everything you need to know about selling handmade: http://handmademarketing.org/
Etsy tips from an awesome seller: http://etsyforeveryone.typepad.com/
The coolest art ever: http://www.michelleward.typepad.com/
Well that is it lemonheads! She had some great info to share, didn’t she? Take a few minutes and visit her very cool shop at inmyheadstudios.etsy.com. She has some very pretty pendants that you will love!
